Monteriggioni's territory has been inhabited since ancient times as proven by the discovery of the Etruscan necropolis of Casone, considered one of the most extensive of northern Etruria.
Besides the Castle of Monteriggioni and Abbadia a Isola it is also worth visiting several hamlets and attractions.
Among the most relevant are worth a mention Strove, Fungaia, Santa Colomba, Colle Ciupi, Hermitage of San Leonardo al Lago, the Castle of the Villa (just the outside), the Castle of the Chiocciola (just the outside) Castelpetraio (just the outside).

San Leonardo al Lago is located in a wood near Pian del Lago and it was in origin a hermitage.

Opening hours Villa: visible only from the outside; church: every day 9am-1pm /3pm-7pm. Holy mass every Sunday at 10am

The village has medieval origins but suffered serious damage in 1364 during the passage of the company of Giovanni Acuto (John Hawkwood).
