Castelnuovo Berardenga

Founded in 1366 by the Republic of Siena as an outpost to watch over  the lands to the east of the city, the only remaining features of the medieval town of Castelnuovo are a tower and a few other buildings. In the town’s church there are a number of 15th century  paintings. The most prominent feature is Villa Chigi Saracini, built in the 19th century, at the same time as its grounds were laid out. The town also plays host to the Museum of the Landscape, which belongs to the Siena Museums Foundation.
