Local area

Situated in the south-west corner of the Chianti region, in the heart of Tuscany, Monteriggioni is the ideal place to plan a stay in this magnificent part of the world. The charming and delightful 13th century borgo (fortified hamlet), which comes to life in July with a lively and exciting medieval fair, will allow you to dive into a past that is still very much alive, one that you can also get a taste of thanks to nearby towns and borghi steeped in history: Siena, San Gimignano, and the little villages of Chianti are just some examples of the wonders that are within reach. Just take one of the numerous panoramic roads that wind their way through the local countryside.
If you’re a nature-lover, we suggest you get to know our local area by walking and hiking along the footpaths of the Montagnola Senese, a sprawling green area classified as an EU “Site of Community Importance” (SCI). Whether you travel on foot, by bike, or on horseback, let yourself be enchanted by centuries-old woods of holm-oak interspersed with rolling vineyards. If you want, you can also travel along fascinating sections of the original Via Francigena, the Pilgrims’ Way leading to Rome.
