This year again the Medieval Festivals of Monteriggioni propose the formula by now tested over the years. The 2009 edition spans, as usual, two weekends set respectively in the 13th and in the 15th centuries. The medieval market is set up within the castle, with characters in period costumes who demonstrate the ancient trades; there are also soldiers and military camps, music and theatre shows, children activities and many eating-houses offering convivial meals. There will be a repeat of the re-enactments of the medieval tournament and of the open field battle in the area outside the city walls at the base of the castle's hill, with real knights and firearms engagements.
